(Phnom Penh): On the morning of March 5, 2024, the Senior Leadership of the Islamic Society of Cambodia, in partnership with the Cambodian Islamic Teachers Association of Cambodia, convened a General Assembly with the theme “Reform of Islamic Education in the Digital Context” to examine the work of Islamic education from 2015 to 2023 and establish the course for future efforts.
H.E. Dr. Osman Hassan, Senior Minister in charge of Special Missions and Chairman of the Khmer Islamic Teachers Association Board, and Mufti Sos Kamry, the head of the Cambodian Islamic Council, presided over the ceremony. The Cambodian Islamic Council conference is scheduled for March 5–6, 2024, at the National Institute of Education (NIE).
The leaders of the Cambodian Islamic Supreme Council, the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, the Provincial Department of Education, Youth, and Sports, and Islamic leaders at all levels, as well as Cambodian Muslim teachers who have actively worked to ensure that Cambodian-Muslim students achieve good academic results with qualifications, were all praised and thanked by H.E. Dr. Osman Hassan during the General Assembly’s Opening Ceremony.
At the same time, He also expressed gratitude to the commercial sector, national and international organizations, and local and foreign donors who have all played a significant role in helping Islamic education in Cambodia recover and flourish to its current state.
“Under the wise leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister, and continue to be under the leadership of Samdech Moha Bovathip Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, the Islamic community in Cambodia is extremely fortunate to live under the roof of peace and harmony, have the same rights and obligations as the general population, without discrimination, especially the right to freedom of religion,” he added.
At the same time, the Cambodian Muslim community in Cambodia held its first conference to review the work of Islamic education from 2015 to 2023 and raise the direction of this significant work, which greatly pleased Mufti Sos Kamry, the leader of the Cambodian Islamic Council.
Mufti went on to say that after the genocidal dictatorship had destroyed Cambodia, the country lost its human resources, particularly its education system, which is the cornerstone of the country. As part of the advancement of society, the Cambodian Islamic Council has been actively engaged in the training and development of human resources.
Please be aware that the aforementioned General Assembly also has an exhibition that highlights the academic accomplishments of a few community educational associations and institutions. Islamic officials from institutions and ministries that were relevant, as well as professors and intellectuals from the nation’s capitals and regions, attended this gathering. There were roughly 700 in-person and 1,000 online participations from representatives of pertinent associations and organizations.
